Aquafitness – Océano Health Spa: Thalasso Pool
Aquafitness has become a trend, and not without good reason – the water’s buoyancy helps us move more freely. This protects joints and makes extra pounds immaterial. The hydrostatic pressure allows the blood and lymph to flow more easily back to the heart, stimulating circulation. Increased heartbeat capacity means the heart doesn’t have to work as hard.
The resistance during strength training in the water is dynamic: the more strength you use, the higher the resistance. This protects ligaments, tendons and joints, and you can steadily increase the amount of strength you use.
Training intensity remains within the optimum range: in addition to the great workout benefits, training remains aerobic – meaning you avoid damaging overexertion.
Water removes heat so that your metabolic rate is greatly increased when training in water and you burn more calories, which the body takes from fatty tissue.
It aids coordination, as habitual asymmetries are eliminated by the high level of weightlessness in the water. Clearly, there is no risk of falling in water, unlike most other sports!
There are practically no limits to how you can move in the water: jumping, walking, jogging, boxing, dancing, cycling…
And, of course, floating. A proper pool has plenty of space for this. It can lead to deep relaxation or be used for effective and gentle osteopathic techniques, particularly in a treatment with a specialized therapist.
The Océano Health Spa has an ideal pool for this: sea water freshly pumped from the Atlantic, heated to 32° to 36°. The salt content of the sea water increases all the described effects in comparison to fresh water. Salt water also aids remineralisation instead of mineral loss, which is otherwise unavoidable during longer bathing sessions.
We have aqua bikes as well as all the usual aids such as pool noodles, aqua dumbbells and belts.
Our upstream swimming system complements swimming and aquawalking endurance training with massage effects.
For relaxing uses such as Ocean Balancing and Sea Water Osteopathy, the pool can temporarily be heated to the required temperature of 36°.
Underwater speakers provide a new kind of musical experience. We perceive music via our bones in the water, not through our ears. The entire body vibrates.
Just like the ‘runners’ high’, water training also increases endorphin output thanks to the reduced muscle tone produced by the reduced gravity. This reduces perceived pain intensity and gives an increased feeling of well-being.
